Quwwat-ul-Islam Girls’ School celebrated World Hijab Day on Monday 2nd February. Students wore a hijab of their own choice and took part in discussions about the meaning and symbolism behind their hijabs. We discussed the following symbolisms:
- Modesty – The hijab represents modesty in dress and behaviour, focusing on character rather than appearance.
- Faith and devotion – Wearing the hijab is an expression of a Muslim woman’s faith and commitment to Islam.
- Identity – For many, the hijab is a visible symbol of Muslim identity and belonging.
- Choice and empowerment – Many women choose to wear the hijab as a form of personal empowerment and self-expression.
- Respect – It symbolises self-respect and dignity.
- Privacy – The hijab can represent maintaining personal boundaries and privacy.
