Love for Reading

Aim

At Quwwat ul Islam Girls’ School we believe that reading is the most important skill a child can learn at school. It is critical in developing vocabulary, comprehension, emotional intelligence and, at a utilitarian level as students process through the school, reading will help with understanding questions and writing answers in GCSE exams.

Most importantly, at Quwwat ul Islam Girls’ School we strongly believe that reading is a skill for life and one which can open the door to a wealth of different worlds and experiences.

At Quwwat ul Islam Girls’ School, we care deeply about providing our students every opportunity to develop and enhance their reading skills.

To help us fulfil our aim, we have introduced the ‘Love for reading’ initiative. All students from Reception – Year 11 will:

  • Read for a minimum of 20 minutes during the school day including Qur’anic recitation
  • Have Guided Reading lessons during the course of the week
  • Be encouraged to read each evening at home for a minimum of 20 minutes
  • Celebrate the life and work of a chosen author and a selection of books
