As part of the Religious Education topic, some students from Years 9 and 10 visited Plashet Girls’ School to discuss stereotype issues.
Stereotypes – An assumption about what someone will do or how they will behave based on what social groups they belong to, such as race.
Stereotypes can often lead to prejudices—which are formed opinions about a person that are not based on actual experience or reason and could lead to favouring one person or group against another. Remarks about race, politics, sex and gender are often based on the most common stereotypes.
Our students worked with other students from Plashet Girls’ School to discuss and focus on ways to overcome stereotypes. They were introduced to faith leaders and interviewed them about difficulties they have faced with stereotyping.
