Drop Down Days’, are ‘off-timetable’ days, which replace structured classroom lessons with activities used to strengthen students’ practical application of skills and provide a deeper learning experience.
Drop Down Days provide students with the ability to be equipped in valuable life skills which extend beyond the classroom context, serving to promote overall health and well-being.
Drop Down Days are carefully planned around our school Learning Drivers and individual character development strands and are integral to our whole school curriculum offer.
We focused on the following learner driver: ‘Caring for our world’.
On Wednesday 7th May, the EYFS and primary students visited West Ham Park to help them connect with nature and learn more about how they can help protect the environment. Most importantly they had the opportunity to take part in helping to keep the park tidy, enabling them to take pride in their local community.
The visit enabled our students to develop an understanding of the natural world around them.
After their visit to West Ham Park, the students carried out follow up activities to consolidate their learning.
The secondary students visited Kew Gardens to help them grasp the essence of biodiversity and its critical role in sustaining life. Students will have the opportunity to see the intricate interdependence of organisms and the impact of human activity on their environment, including the threat of extinction. This experience aimed to deepen their understanding of conservation and inspire a sense of responsibility towards our planet’s well-being.
