For 2026-2027 Student RE Matters is running an exciting year investigating Being Human – finding out about religion and beliefs views on the nature of being human.

Some of our Year 9 students had the opportunity to visit St Bonaventure School, along with other students from other local schools, to take part in sessions involving religion and beliefs within Newham and visit local charities.

On Tuesday 29th September, the students were introduced to this year’s topic, ‘Being Human.’ Following an initial icebreaker activity, the children explored a range of quotations from different religious traditions, considering the responsibilities and expectations placed upon human beings.

For example, they examined the Qur’anic ayah: “He is the One who has placed you as stewards on the earth.” This encouraged the students to reflect on what it means to be a steward and the responsibilities we have towards the world and others.

The children also had the opportunity to share and discuss their individual ideas about life, encouraging thoughtful reflection, respectful dialogue, and an appreciation of different perspectives.
